Kerekere Beach, New Zealand

I don't normally like to paint a scene without having experienced a place, but this painting was commissioned by a good friend. A trip to New Zealand would have been ideal, though unfortunately unrealistic! Instead I gathered together imagery from other sources including drone footage I found online which gave a sense of the location. The rock formation in the sea also features in the opening of the film "The Piano". It's a small painting: 22 x 18cm.
