A close look at rocks and strata has been my way of addressing the theme of the exhibition 'About Time' (The Sock Gallery, Loughborough). The starting point was my interest in ‘Hutton’s Unconformity’, a geological phenomenon that provided evidence that the age of the Earth is much older than a few thousands of years as previously thought. Geological processes are now well known to occur over vast timescales, a concept pivotal in establishing the notion of ‘deep time’.
